Bruce Molsky — Virtual Concert

Friday, December 4, 2020, at 7:00 pm
NY United States

Bruce Molsky stands today as perhaps the premier old-time fiddler in the world. His own personal authenticity deeply informs his music. Whether performing an ancient reel from Virginia, a Swedish waltz, or a loping cowboy ballad, Bruce presents himself as exactly who he is. He knows that traditional music is real people’s music, the honest expression of life as we all live it. You don’t master that by imitating others, nor by trying to live in other people’s worlds. You master it by being yourself; and at that profoundly simple and profoundly difficult musical art, Molsky is truly old-time music’s master craftsman.

Roots & Wings: How Traditional Music Is the Foundation of All My Music

Folk music’s renaissance man — master instrumentalist, powerful singer-songwriter, storyteller, activist, and author. folkmusic.com

“In this concert, I’ll do a blend of traditional songs and my own, especially those I’ve written in recognizable traditional forms. I’ll give a shoutout to those groups who continue to celebrate, teach, and honor traditional music and those that are shepherding it into our own lives and times. We’ll have a bit of a campfire Q&A after the music, just like we do in person. And, who knows?, maybe we might even have a special guest or two!”

Spring into Uke on a Cloud

Saturday, April 17
NY United States

That’s right strummers and pickers… Spring into Uke at Old Songs goes virtual this year and it’s real, on April 17!

Featuring Lil Rev and Ron Gordon teaching great new tunes, tips, and songs in an interactive virtual space with Zoom.

Our workshops will be longer than was standard to allow time for lots of learning and interaction. What used to be “handouts” will all be available online ahead of time along with sound files to be ready for, and to enrich your experience. New ways to learn will be a round robin seminar, with demo to acquaint ukers with new musical concepts, techniques, and answers to your questions about our beloved 4 strings. An example — why a low versus a high G string? Do I need both? (Hint: that means you get to have two ukes!). Also, we’ll change the thinking on what’s a concert — you can play along with some songs, since you’ll have the song sheets ahead of time. Limited number of participants so get a spot early! Hope to see you there, and stay healthy!

All Workshops will take place over Zoom. No Refunds.
