The Jeremiahs combine traditional and contemporary Irish sounds to create their own brand of Urban Folk music. Joe Gibney (vocals, whistle) offers a diverse repertoire of songs, from rousing sea shanties to emotional traditional songs of hardship, love, and loss; James Ryan (guitar, bouzouki) draws on a wide a range of influences from different genres and traditions, evident is his unique percussive backing style; Jean Christophe Morel (fiddle, mandola) brings an exotic style of fiddling to the band’s sound; and Julien Bruneteau, a flute player of great sensitivity with an amazing ability to improvise.

This class assumes little or no previous experience with the whistle or with Irish traditional music. We’ll have some fun learning scales and a few common tunes. You’ll need a pennywhistle in the key of D. Some inexpensive ones will be available. Also bring an audiorecording device of some kind (a phone app is fine!) And perhaps something to take notes with, if you like.

Award winning fiddler and clawhammer player, Janie Rothfield and her husband, Scottish singer and guitarist Allan Carr, have been playing their unique blend Appalachian style and Scottish music for over 30 years. Together they play roots music that is directly from the source while expanding on the tradition with newly composed songs and tunes. Great singing, hot instrumentals, stories and with Allan’s humor, always a whole lot of fun!
