Martin Carthy
For more than 50 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it.
He’s a ballad singer, a ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist and an authoritative interpreter of newly composed material. He always prefers to follow an insatiable musical curiosity rather than cash in on his unrivalled position. Perhaps, most significant of all, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar, which have influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, on both sides of the Atlantic.

Bluegrass Jam Class
Taught by Bob Altschuler using the Wernick Method
5 sessions, tuition $160 ($10 discount until 3/23/18)
Playing music with others is the best activity for getting better on your instrument! Using the tried and true Pete Wernick method, Bob will teach fundamentals of bluegrass jamming and build your confidence in playing with others. The music is slow and easy, and you will quickly gain skills while having fun. And,these skills are transferable to other types of music because they are basic to all types of jamming. All skill levels are welcome, and bringing a recording device is recommended.
- All bluegrass instruments welcome
- No jamming experience necessary
- You will be jamming the first class!
- Friendly, encouraging, knowledgeable teaching.
- Mistakes allowed!
- Singing not required, but encouraged and taught.
- Easy 2 and 3-chord songs, slow speeds.
- Soloing not required! “Faking” solos taught.

Lil’ Rev is well known on the international ukulele scene as a protector of old songs and playing styles including early blues, Tin-Pan Alley, old time, Yiddish and American folk styles. He is also known for his passionate endeavors to preserve antiquated right hand strokes and strums.

Veteran fiddlers David Greely (Louisiana) and Claude Méthé (Québec) invite you to connect the dots between their two vibrant traditions. For a quarter of a century, these two award-winning “porteurs de tradition” have made their mark as players and cultural ambassadors on both sides of the border. Accompanied by guitarist-singer-foot-percussionist Dana Whittle, they offer up songs and music that illustrate the respective differences and similarities of their dual French/North American roots. Traditional Irish Slow Session
3rd Wednesday of the Month
This is a friendly, repertoire-building opportunity to play your new tunes slowly and work on your old tunes at a reasonable tempo. We will focus specifically on traditional Irish music, and all Irish-appropriate instruments are welcome (i.e. wooden flute, tin whistle, concertina, button or piano accordion, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, fiddle, harp). We encourage tape recorders, and focus on learning tunes by ear. Music stands and continuous use of sheet music discouraged. Bring snacks to share.
