Singer and songwriter Jane Voss works from a broad palette of American Roots Music, moving from one genre or style to another with utter naturalness and ease. Her use of Roots idioms is no gimmick, but rather her native and natural expression, borne of influences and loves dating back to her midwestern childhood.
Ragtime, boogie-woogie, Harlem stride, blues, Latin-American Dance Tunes, and original compositions: Hoyle Osborne plays them all with grace and feeling, eloquence, and a masterful style. He is elegant, but never afraid to get down, sometimes funky, and always soulful.
Partners for more than 25 years, Jane Voss and Hoyle Osborn are a dynamic juxtaposition of tradition and originality; rare old blues and vaudeville songs with their own compositions. According to Sing Out! magazine Jane and Hoyle “created their own hybrid of Bay-area folk-blues and jazz.”

A concert of New York State’s hidden history in a performance of authentic songs used to persuade, rally and celebrate as sung by women and men during the American Women’s Suffrage Movement. Songs which range from humorous to poignant, from strident marches to hymns, and popular parlor songs. Through historical narrative and the songs we will tell the story of how American women won the right to vote in 1917 in New York, and 1920 in the nation. forwardintolight.oldsongs.org
