Virtuosic Scandinavian folk musicians on Hardanger fiddle and Nyckelharpa.
Swedish keyed fiddle player Erik Rydvall and Hardanger fiddle player Olav Luksengård Mjelva, from Røros in Norway, are both counted among the foremost folk musicians of their generation. Rydvall and Mjelva are inquisitive musicians, with strong roots in the traditions of their places of origin. A duo collaboration featuring Hardanger fiddle and keyed fiddle has rarely been presented before. The repertoire and playing styles of the two instruments are basically very different, but the two musicians manage to make the combination sound natural and intriguing.

An evening of authentic Appalachian mountain music from Bruce Molsky’s new trio with Allison de Groot and Stash Wyslouch.
Bruce Molsky, “one of America’s premier fiddling talents” (Mother Jones) and Grammy-nominated artist on fiddle, banjo, guitar and song is delighted to present his new group already on tour in the US. Allison de Groot combines wide ranging virtuosity and passion for old-time music. Like Bruce, Allison loves collaborating and bringing new ideas to old music, and brings a fresh approach to the trio. Boston-based Stash Wyslouch is one of bluegrass’ great young genre-bending pioneers. Stash brings great sensitivity and real emotion to the trio, plus some superb guitar and vocal chops.

Learn and consolidate the essential skills needed for playing old-time music in the clawhammer style. We will work on the following (but not limited to):
You will learn these techniques within the context of “Round Peak” banjo tunes. The tunes (some simple, some more involved) will be learned through listening, repeating, and tablature. It is highly recommended that you bring along a recording device! Also recommended (but not required): Brad Leftwich’s book with CD: Round Peak Style Clawhammer Banjo. Please note: It is assumed that the student already has basic “banjo knowledge” and can play a few tunes.
For more information contact Paul at 518-380-1103 or clawhammer888@gmail.com.
