A lifelong collector and performer of traditional songs, George Ward draws on the rural singing tradition of the American Northeast for his main inspiration. Ancient ballads migrant in the New World; songs of the rural home and hearth; songs of the lumber woods, the rivers, and canals are central to his repertoire.
A tradition-based songsmith of the Adirondacks, Dan Berggren writes with honesty, humor, and a strong sense of place. His songs explore the many dimensions of home, hard-working folks, and taking care of our planet and each other.

Believing that sea chanteys and sea songs were the first real “World Music”, Joy Bennett, Alison Kelley, Bonnie Milner, and Deirdre Murtha know how to serve up a chantey in salty and authentic style that will leave you longing for the age of sail. Whether performing chanteys with hair-raising harmonies or sharing tender ballads, The Johnson Girls remain true to their mission of keeping chantey singing alive, bringing women’s voices to the fore, and sweeping their audiences along in a tidal fervor. thejohnsongirls.com

The name Cantrip is an Old Scots word meaning a charm, magic spell or piece of mischief and it aptly describes the unexpected twists and turns in their musical arrangements, likewise the compelling potency of their musicianship. Swirling border pipes, raging fiddle, thunderous guitar and three rich voices blend to create a sound energetic enough to tear the roof off. After 20 years of touring, Cantrip has found a character like no other. Echoes can be heard of trad music from the 1960s and 70s, but the years have slowly infested their music with the sounds of funk, metal, bluegrass, swing, and even klezmer. Dan Houghton, Jon Bews, Alasdair White and Eric McDonald stir the elements in a witches’ cauldron, slowly coalescing into chaotic order. cantrip-music.com

3rd Wednesday of the Month (Sept. – May)
This is a friendly, repertoire-building opportunity to play your new tunes slowly and work on your old tunes at a reasonable tempo. We will focus specifically on traditional Irish music, and all Irish-appropriate instruments are welcome (i.e. wooden flute, tin whistle, concertina, button or piano accordion, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, fiddle, harp). We encourage tape recorders, and focus on learning tunes by ear. Music stands and continuous use of sheet music discouraged. Bring snacks to share. Led by Sean McCorkle.
