The trio crafts an evening out of their originals, instrumentals and traditional songs, as well as verses by poet Jane Yolen set to music. Harmonies blend three strong voices, paring down to just one when the story shifts shape. Donna’s fiddling morphs from light to dark, while Lui’s piano, banjo and ukulele converse fluently with Max’s guitar. 3 ravens offers a rich and joyful audience experience… and if the fiddle catches your feet, you might just find yourself dancing!

Patrick Ball is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist. In playing the ancient, legendary brass-strung harp of Ireland with its crystalline, bell-like voice, and in performing marvelous tales of wit and enchantment, he not only brings new life to two cherished traditions, but blends them in concert to create “a richly theatrical and hauntingly beautiful performance.”

A concert of New York State’s hidden history in a performance of authentic songs used to persuade, rally and celebrate as sung by women and men during the American Women’s Suffrage Movement. Songs which range from humorous to poignant, from strident marches to hymns, and popular parlor songs. Through historical narrative and the songs we will tell the story of how American women won the right to vote in 1917 in New York, and 1920 in the nation. forwardintolight.oldsongs.org

John McCutcheon is a folk music’s renaissance man—master instrumentalist, powerful singer-songwriter, storyteller, activist, and author. His eclectic catalog of ballads, historical songs, children’s songs, love songs, topical satire, fiddle and hammer dulcimer instruments, and even symphonic works are among the broadest in American folk music. With his deep roots in American traditional music, his approach to writing reflects both a simplicity and a layered complexity that creates songs that are always more than they seem. folkmusic.com

with Dave Ruch, John Roberts, George Ward, and special guests.
A lifelong collector and performer of traditional songs, George Ward draws on the rural singing tradition of the American Northeast for his main inspiration. Ancient ballads migrant in the New World, songs of the rural home and hearth, songs of the lumber woods, the rivers and canals are central to his repertoire. They are joined by songs of social movements, the Down-Rent Wars of nineteenth century New York, the American Revolution, and by comic songs from a variety of traditions. George’s writing includes contemporary songs, often in traditional style, dance tunes and other explorations for a variety of traditional instruments and soundtracks for a number of film and television productions.
